It’s my wish to make timeless designs —Visual Designer Sentiandazi
Warm lines are used to connect point-to-point, constructing a thoughtful platform that brings change to life. This is the daily life of designer Sentiandazi, who makes timeless designs that can solve more problems and needs. We talked to her in the afternoon, Sentian’s slim lines merge with inooknit’s sense, we chat from romantic symbols to stepping out of the designer’s personality.
Q: How did you first get into graphic design? And how do you become a freelance designer?
I chose industrial design in high school because I thought it was cool, but during my studies, I found that industrial design requires a high level of teamwork and is limited to individual creation, and then I discovered my passion in visual design and even enrolled in a master's program for graphic design. Although the courses were different from what I expected, I continued to take on design projects and it became steady, so I became a freelance designer after graduation, which suits my personality more.
Q: How do you define your style?
My name came from my nickname, and it has nothing to do with Japan, but in many cases, it gives an illusion of Japanese style which was not intentional. In my mind, this does not equal Japanese design style, and perhaps the Japanese people do not feel that this is the Japanese style either. My goal is to make timeless designs that can support the client to push the brand into the audience's mind and at the same time give people a sense of time to continue to tell their own stories through design.
Q: Can work-life balance for a freelance designer? Where's your inspiration come from?
I think it’s 50/50. My ideas for inspiration is different from others, I’m more into the feeling of design, I think we should go through "understanding" to "solve the problem", to "feel" things, there will be a natural solution, and aesthetics is a plus so that function-oriented design can be more smooth, easier to enter the hearts of the audience.
Q: What’s a Sentiandazi color scheme、music and hobby?
I love colors, it can be pink, it can be neon, depending on my mood of the day. Because when you remove the things you don’t like, there’s only fun left, it’s important to try everyday and involve yourself through different experiences.
Q:Do women have unique personalities in design, they can be soft, cool but also elegant?
Indeed, many clients describe my work in this way. I like the femininity of my work, but it is not the softness that is being recognized, instead, it conveys the subtlety and versatility of women. For example, wearing inooknit shoes this time is also a new attempt to experience femininity, which can be feminine, but at the same time can be very personal.
Q: What’s your daily OOTD?
VINTAGE! I've been trying different vintage clothes, and I'm deeply attracted to the workmanship of vintage clothes. The delicate stitching, unique styles, and colors always make people find new surprises in the same clothes over and over again. I wore inooknit’s flat in ochre inspired me to style in monotone, so I chose a light green top with orange, with knitted shoes it will give a warm welcome feeling.
Q: Apart from vintage, do you have a habit of collecting old things? What are the key points of collecting?
Nowadays, many objects are popular with minimalism, and minimalism has its own beauty, but there are many details and creativity in old things. I even feel that people are low-key and demanding about furniture objects, but people in the past were very high-key and had a high sense of presence in their home furnishings, like a record player or a clock, and every old home appliance has its own design that they want to be seen.
Q: So, what was your impression and experience wearing inooknit?
I wore two pairs of flat shoes, the strap style is suitable for a dress-up occasion. The strap-up is highly decorative and feels great, and even if it is knotted in the usual comfortable way, it doesn't fall off easily when you move and walk, and it is a comfortable shoe that will make you feel better after wearing it. Another pair of ribbed shoes, very casual feeling, the ease of a set can go out, coupled with the ribbed line design, retain the basic sense of smoothness, very suitable for everyday wear.
Q: What’s your future plan?
I am a projector and I don't make special plans. I often wait for others to invite me, and I have a passive personality, but I can always give my best, which is also a good way of working. However, this year, I will still be involved in some collaborations with friends, and find a good opportunity to launch the concept on my own.
