In pop music, they represent the transformation of the era. The lead singer, Chester suffered from PTSD and the song “One More Light” expresses the many feelings that the helpless ones had. A song brightened people’s lives and became a helping hand for me and pulled me out of the dark.
Even though Chester decided to leave this dimension, his light still shines every time I play this song.
”JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” by Hirohito Araki
Since 1987, the first part has been serialized in Shueisha’s juvenile manga magazine “Weekly Shōnen Jump”. It’s currently serialized to the ninth part since 2005 by “Ultra Jump”. Every protagonist inherits the wonderful ties between JoJo’s oppression and predicament, the never defeated spirit just inspired me so much. I fell in love with this classic because everyone faces different challenges, but the most important thing is that we don’t give up. That’s the meaning of being strong and alive, it’s empowering.
Yun-Yun: I love Joanne Wang’s album <Love is Calling Me>. The first time I put a mandarin record on repeat was this one, and every cover song represents the love stories traveling through eras. She sang in Mandarin, Japanese and Cantonese; they’re all common love languages. The arrangement of this album is just like it’s telling a story about a romantic relationship: loathing, infatuation, and the will to fight for love. Joanne Wang’s unique vocal builds up the sentiments. I suppose, this is what it means to fall in the flow of love and sensations, love is worth each of our gives and takes so that it flows.
Another artist is Cara Marie Piazza, an artist who uses natural materials to re-create dyes. She used to be fascinated by natural hand-made products. By fate, I witnessed her flower-dyed bras, it was amazing!
Later, I was in New York and was fortunate to visit her workshop, it was an unforgettable experience.
On the day I visited the workshop, every utensil was very particular, whether it was glassware loaded with plants, delicate fixtures, tables with strong old southern style and unique tablecloths, and even the dying cloth needed to be steamed, all of which are made of firewood and antique.
Before the production, she took us to a garden tour to learn about the knowledge of plants and the colors generated after cooking (in fact, they all have Italian accents in English, and I don't understand much about it), but through her expression, tone and body language, you can feel the enthusiasm. After passing through a group of weeds that seemed to be disordered, Cara stopped and told us that this color can be made into a very beautiful and elegant blue, and then she took it off and placed it into the basket, and then she made a move, she spit on the plants (I still want to say, I thought only Chinese people like to spit, haha.)
To my astonishment, she told us that in her tradition (she is Italian) is that if you take from nature, you need to throw a lock of your hair or a touch of your saliva and give it back to nature. Immediately I thought: So beautiful! ! I was very touched. For such enthusiasm and love for nature, there will be a very natural flow of emotions, without constraints, rules, and responsibilities. It is the purest form. To this day, when I see the weeds growing by the wall, I still think of the day that made me so stimulated emotionally. The selfless flow between nature and human beings is the power of love.
